Learning centres

Established technology-enabled education centres with internet connectivity for students in Australia and remote locations in Sri Lanka.

Virtual classes

Established virtual English classes for primary-school students through certified international English teachers in Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States.

STEM education

Established computer-literacy and programming classes, together with online tutoring support for STEM-based education.

Milestones

Progress built over time

A record of milestones already documented by Upcycled Tech from 2019 to September 2023.
  1. 25 desktop computers were collected and refurbished from corporate donors.

  2. An additional 50 devices, including tablets, smartphones and computers, were collected from donors.

  3. The first distance-learning centre was established with more than 70 internet-enabled devices, providing access to more than 350 students.

  4. Virtual English, mathematics, science and computer-literacy classes were launched for primary-school students during COVID-19 lockdowns, supported by local and international volunteer teachers.

  5. Software-engineering and computer-programming classes were launched for school leavers.

  6. An additional 45 desktop computers, 15 laptops, 10 smartphones and 5 tablets supported the launch of a second distance-learning centre, providing access to another 450 students.

  7. 100 additional donated devices supported the launch of three new learning centres and expanded ICT access to more than 2,000 students.

  8. More than 500 devices had been collected from small businesses, corporations and individuals.

  9. More than 1,000 additional devices were collected. Technology infrastructure also supported the operational needs of more than a dozen startups in remote areas of Sri Lanka.

  10. More than 50 smart projectors were collected and donated to an IT centre in Sri Lanka.

  11. Refurbished laptops were provided to support Australian students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.

  12. $10,000 in funding was raised to support social-enterprise initiatives and operational goals.

  13. Refurbished devices were provided to Australian asylum seekers to support their integration into the country.
